As lead designer on the Focusrite Scarlett line, I redefined the product’s industrial design to reflect both technical precision and creative accessibility. The interface’s signature red anodized aluminum shell, intuitive control layout, and compact form factor deliver a tactile, instantly recognizable experience for musicians and producers. This redesign helped solidify Scarlett’s position as one of the most trusted and best-selling audio interfaces globally.

Design Challenge
The goal was to refresh the iconic red Scarlett audio interface line while enhancing usability and improving manufacturing efficiency. With product iterations spanning entry‑level to prosumer use, I needed a design language that was both cohesive and flexible across SKUs.
Approach & Process
Working with cross‑functional teams, I led the design strategy which included market research and user testing to uncover needs of musicians, podcasters, and audio technicians. I developed rapid prototypes to evaluate ergonomics such as particularly knob feel, I/O layout, and LED metering while balancing cost constraints through modular casing design and shared component systems.
Outcome
The result is a refined Scarlett interface that maintains its instantly recognizable aesthetic while delivering better tactile experience, streamlined manufacturing, and consistent CMF execution across models. The new design strengthened Scarlett’s brand equity while supporting its continued success as a top-selling series globally.
