As lead designer for OPI’s On Point press-on nail line, I translated the brand’s professional salon heritage into a bold, consumer-ready packaging system that merges beauty with utility. Much like framing a piece of art, the packaging was designed to elevate and protect the product while ensuring instant visual clarity on shelf. Balancing sustainability, structural integrity, and an elevated unboxing experience, the packaging invites consumers into the world of high-performance, DIY nail care without sacrificing the luxury cues that define OPI’s identity.

Design Challenge
With the launch of On Point, OPI entered the highly competitive press-on nail category where shelf visibility, premium perception, and sustainable solutions are key to consumer appeal. The challenge was to design packaging that stood out at mass retail while reinforcing OPI’s authority in professional-quality nail care.
Approach & Process
I led the structural and visual development of the primary and secondary packaging, crafting a system that balanced durability with tactility and shelf impact. The custom-molded clamshell was designed for reusability and protection of delicate nail components, while the paperboard sleeve showcased the shade and shape clearly for easy consumer navigation. Sustainability played a central role, the structure incorporated up to 94% post-consumer recycled materials, and the design minimized plastic while meeting durability requirements for e-comm and retail.
Design Solution
The final packaging successfully blends aesthetic clarity with functional performance. It communicates the gel-like quality of the nails while offering intuitive organization, reusability, and a premium unboxing experience. The packaging has helped position OPI not just as a lacquer leader, but as an innovation-forward beauty brand in the growing press-on nail space.
