The new generation of the Komplete Kontrol Keyboard and Maschine were designed with an updated modern look and feel. The award-winning design was designed with manufacturing in mind to keep the costs low by reducing the part count. I have designed a modular system of components which share parts and UX patterns to create consistency in the user experience and strong visual identity.

Design Challenge
The challenge was to propose and execute a re-design of two established product lines: Komplete and Maschine. Both cater to a wide audience of musicians and producers in the studio as well as on stage. The new design language needed to be recognizable yet functional and user-centered.
The development of multiple products was also a challenge as they all needed to meet the same release schedule.
Role & Responsibilities
As the design lead, I was responsible for the entire design and product development of this effort. From ideation, concept generation, user and market research as well as facilitating design workshops with the design group to define the new design language. Further responsibilities included prototyping and testing, UX design, industrial design and CMF design of this series. I was the main design contact for our suppliers and manufacturing partners overseas to negotiate and collaborate on quality control to run mass-production smoothly.
Users & Audience
Both product portfolios being used in studio environments as well as on stages, catering to both professional musicians and producers. We wanted to bridge the gap between these two domains through a new coherent design language which shared UX patterns and interface elements.
As the main user base was coming from traditional music production and performance background, we had to keep in my industry standard workflows and complement with existing setups.
